About tennisgoat

Thanks again for looking at the website. My name is Duncan Willitts and I'm the founder of tennisgoat. I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and my reasons for setting up the league in the first place.

As a junior I played to a county level and had a rating of 2.2. After finishing my GCSE's I attended a scholarship at Sutton Junior Tennis Centre. This is where my rating stalled - not because of the training or playing standard, but because I didn't have a parent to drive me to tournaments all the time and finding local matches was even harder.

When I finished playing (or trying to!) I took my coaching qualifications and I am now a CCA/P coach and head coach of Walton LTC where we have a strong developing junior section.

This is where I noticed an old problem, quite a few of my younger juniors have got to the stage recently of wanting to compete and improve their ratings. The problem they have is that they are struggling to get into tournaments because their rating was too low yet they can’t improve it without matches- a bit of a vicious circle! Having also spoken to a few of my more experienced juniors and they said that even they struggled to get matches against the same rated players regularly, especially without it costing a small fortune!!! I decided I wanted to find an affordable solution!

That is how tennisgoat was created!
